This study is entitled: The role of electronic media in the formation of values and social consciousness of the university student. This theme is one of the essential subjects of the sociology of education in intersection with sciences of information and communication. Its crucial importance is linked to the importance: firstly of values and social consciousness, secondly of the process of their formation for university students in the midst of a period of constitution of their personality and organization of their priorities towards society state. Electronic media, with their successive flows and accelerations, constitute a qualitative leap in the world of communication; they play an increasing and pressing role in the construction, modification and formation of the system of values and social consciousness of the University student. This process does not take place by a decision but by a process desired by an authority on the one hand, on the other hand it is a process which accompanies the university student in his relations with the media material and the act of social communication through all available media, in order to get access to the information society and enhance its contribution within the framework of the social consensus concerning the contents which serve the established objectives. Thus, he is confronted with a set of expectations that he must fully fulfil in accordance with what society wants. On the basis of the preceding elements, the study attempted to answer all of the following questions: 1) Do interactive media refine moral values and create self-consciousness? 2) Do social media help social values change and collective consciousness? 3) Does citizen-media promote political values and determine national consciousness? 4) Do religious media consolidate religious values and support religious consciousness? These questions were at the center of the questionnaire adopted as the main instrument in the research. The questionnaire was administered to a stratified proportional sample consisting of 212 students at the University of Jijel (Pole-Tassoust). In order to confirm the main propositions, the research was divided into two parts: a first theoretical part which contains six chapters, and a second which contains the empirical elements composed of three chapters. The research started from a main hypothesis: Electronic media play a role in the formation of values and social consciousness of the university student. The main objectives of the study focus in particular on the role of electronic media in the formation of values, their modification or their reactivation according to social consciousness which corresponds to the aspirations of the university student, but also to notice the outputs of the Electronic media as a social alternative that builds the social identity of the student by assuming his full responsibilities in a changing world whose means are technology and information without borders or censorship; in addition to the examination of the factors and modalities of the formation of social values and the development of the social consciousness of the university student. In order to achieve these objectives, the descriptive method was used, which is suitable for the research topic, in addition to a set of data collection instruments such as observation, questionnaire, interview and some related documents. . After the analysis phase, the researcher analyzed and interpreted the data quantitatively and qualitatively using SPSS version 20. After analyzing the data, several results were drawn, the most important of which are: 1) Electronic media as interaction and reconstruction, form perceptions that increase over time. 2) As social media, they help to modify, support and activate social values and make the university student an element of collective consciousness. 3) Because it is a media of the citizen, they promote the political values of the university student and make him aware of all the challenges which impose a different reality. 4) As a religious media with different medium, they support the religious values of the university student by developing critical thinking, carefulness, realism and advanced understanding. In general, the results show that electronic media have a role to play in the formation of values and social consciousness of the university student, which makes him able to take responsibility on the one hand and contribute to the process of construction and development of society and the State. It should be noted that this research has raised some questions that require further sociological research. (Author's abstract)
