The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of an instructional program based on the communicative approach in improving critical reading skills among seventh-grade students in Jordan. The study was conducted at Ahmad Al-Louzi elementary school for boys, which is affiliated with the directorate of education in Amman II. The study employed a quasi experimental methodology for data collection. The study sample consisted of 72 students, selected purposively. An assessment test for critical reading skills was developed as the study instrument. The study's results demonstrated the superiority of the instructional program grounded in the communicative approach over the traditional program in enhancing critical reading skills. This could be attributed to its facilitation of student interaction, enabling them to exchange ideas and necessary information to enrich their knowledge and perspectives. Additionally, the approach focused on a semi-interactive learning process, stimulating students' ability to draw upon prior knowledge and enhancing their capacity to develop strategies for critical reading skills. The researchers recommend including evidence from Arabic language teachers on utilizing the communicative approach to enhance critical reading skills among seventh-grade students.
