The study aimed to identify the reality of scientific research and the challenges facing it in the Sultanate of Oman. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researchers used the descriptive analytical approach and used the questionnaire as a tool. It was applied to a sample of (125) researchers and academics. The results of the study showed the following: The number of government-funded research projects and programs They are considered very few and focus on scientific disciplines when compared to the number of research programs in foreign countries, and the percentage of spending on scientific research out of the Omani GDP is very small, as it hardly reaches 0.24 in 2019. The study has proven that the challenges facing scientific research in all His interlocutors came to a large extent, and this gives an indication that one of the reasons for the lack of progress in scientific research in the Sultanate. The order of the scientific research challenges came according to the answers of the study sample, respectively: (challenges related to the work environment – challenges related to research - challenges related to the supervisory authority - challenges related to researchers), and finally the study proved that there are no statistically significant differences in the answers of the study sample about The challenges of scientific research in the Sultanate of Oman at the level of 0.05 due to the nature of gender (male-female) and educational qualification. Based on the results of the study, the researchers recommend that leaders specialized in scientific research work to adopt new research projects; by supporting it in all possible ways, and encouraging Omani researchers to carry out scientific research, especially on contemporary issues.
