تتشعب أدوار المعلم بحيث تتجاوز دوره التقليدي في نقل المعرفة إلى أدوار أخرى، تتسع دائرتها لتتجاوز أسوار المدرسة إلى قلب الحياة والمجتمع، وبذلك صار على المعلم أن يكون عضواً فعالاً في خدمة مجتمعه. إلا أن غياب المعلم عن القيام بتلك الأدوار يعني وجود فجوة حادثة بين ما يتوقع من المعلم القيام به (الدور التوقعي)، وما يقوم به المعلم بالفعل (الدور الواقعي). ومن ثم هدف البحث إلى التعرف على أبعاد دور المعلم في خدمة مجتمعه المحلي، وأهم العوامل المؤثرة في ذلك الدور؛ وصولاً إلى مجموعة من التوصيات والمقترحات التي تعزز دور المعلم في خدمة مجتمعه المحلي. وقد اعتمد الباحث على منهج التحليل الفلسفي، وتوصل إلى عدة نتائج أهمها أن مدى وفاء المعلم بالقيام بهذا الدور الهام مرهون بثلاثة أمور: 1) درجة التقدير التي يحظى بها داخل المجتمع، وتعزز استعداده للقيام بهذا الدور. 2) تكوينه العلمي والمهني، وظروف العمل المحيطة بالمهنة. 3) الوضع الإقتصادي المشبع لحاجاته الأساسية. The role of the teacher goes beyond his traditional role in transferring knowledge to other roles that extend beyond the walls of the school to the heart of life and society. Thus, the teacher has to be an active member in the service of his community. However, the absence of a teacher from performing these roles means that there is an incident gap between what the teacher is expected to do (the expected role) and what the teacher is actually doing (the actual role). The aim of the research is to identify the dimensions of the role of the teacher in the service of his community, and the most important factors affecting that role, leading to a set of recommendations and proposals that enhance the role of the teacher in the service of his community. The researcher adopted .the method of philosophical analysis, and reached several results, the most important of which is that the extent to which the teacher fulfills this important role depends on three things: 1) The degree of appreciation that he enjoys within the community and strengthen his readiness to play this role. 2) Scientific and professional composition, and working conditions surrounding the profession. 3) The economic situation that meets its basic needs.
