This study aims to developing an active learning-based program and measuring its effectiveness in developing the geographic skills among the third preparatory grade students in Riyadh. A list of appropriate geographical skills for students after making sure of the sincerity has been prepared, and in light of this, the content of the geography textbook destined for the third preparatory students has been analyzed to find out the availability of geographical skills. Also, a card for observing the performance of the students in understanding the maps has been prepared. Then the content of the proposed program has been formulated in the light of the philosophical foundations reached from the theoretical framework of the research and a test of geographical thinking skills to measure the performance of the 3rd grade students, and research measure tools were applied before and after teaching the program, the educational supervision center in south of Riyadh with the intermediate school no. 13 were chosen for the experiment. The individuals in the sample were 58 students who were divided into 2 equivalent groups. After some statistical processes, several results were reached, and there were statistically significant differences between the averages of the experimental group. There were also statistically significant differences in testing pre and post the geographical thinking skills in favor of the posttest. The results revealed statistically significant differences between the averages of the experimental and control group in the pre and posttest of the geographical thinking skills in favor of posttest.
