The objective of the current research is to identify the degree to which student-teachers possess performance standards in the light of 21st century skills. It also aimed to detect the existence of statistically significant differences at the level of (0.05) among the responses of the research respondents about student-teachers possessing these professional performance standards in the light of 21st century skills, and the obstacles they encounter according to (gender – grade - specialization) variables. The sample of the study included (179) students of the basic education department in both Arabic and quranic studies divisions, faculty of education and science, qassim university, Saudi Arabia. The researcher adopted the descriptive analytical method as an approach for the study, and relied on a questionnaire as a tool for study. The study found several findings, the most important of which are: that the professional performance standards required to be possessed by student-teachers in the light of 21st century skills, relating to each of (critical thinking and problem solving - creativity and innovation - cooperation and working in a team - self-learning) scored a (high) degree from the perspective of the respondents. That the professional performance standards required to be possessed by student-teachers in the light of 21st century skills, relating to computing and information transfer, scored a (moderate) degree from the perspective of the respondents. There were statistically significant differences at (0.05) level of significance in the research sample’s opinions on the axes of the questionnaire as a whole according to (gender) variable in favor of males. There were no statistically significant differences at (0.05) level of significance in the research sample’s opinions on the axes of the questionnaire as a whole according to (academic level) variable. There were statistically significant differences at (0.05) level of significance in the opinions of the respondents on the total degree according to (specialization) variable in favor of sharia specialists. The researcher recommended several recommendations, the most important of which are: conducting further studies that aim at identifying the most important obstacles for student teachers to acquire professional performance standards based on the 21st century skills, and how to overcome them.
