The current study aimed at investigating the prevailing leadership styles among the academic heads of departments from the point of view of faculty members at the University of Yarmouk and it also aimed at identifying the effects of each of these variables: sex, specialization, academic rank and the number of the years of experience. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was developed of (30) items covering two areas, which are: (proactivity in suggesting frameworks and Validity)and reliability of the questionnaire were tested. The sample of the study consisted of (280) randomly selected faculty members from a population of (608) faculty members. To answer the questions of the study, means and standard deviations were calculated as well as using other statistical methods and the results showed that: The means to the estimations the sample of study was (3.40) which equal middle and the domain of care about the university work was at the first mean (3.41) then the domain of care about human feelings mean(3.38).There were no significant differences among the study sample degrees as a whole or regarding the sub areas due to the study variables. According to the previous results, the researchers recommended the following: Giving special importance to academic heads of departments regarding rehabilitation, continuous training and good choice. Commissioning academic heads of departments according to efficiency, competence and creativity and not according to rotation and fellowship. Providing appropriate human, material, financial and technical resources to achieve the goals of the university. (Published abstract)
