The level of organizational justice practiced by the heads of academic departments in Princess Nourah Bent Abdulrahman University and its effects on the faculty morale [Article]
The purpose of my study is to determine the level of organizational justice (distributional, procedural, interactional and evaluational) practiced by the heads of academic departments according to the faculty members and its effects on their morale and the relationship between them. The study is conducted at Princess Nourah Bent Abdulrahman University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where 2218 faculty members participated in my research during the academic year 1437/1438 ah. In order to achieve the aim of the study and answer its questions, a descriptive method is used. A simple random sample of 570 members i.e. 26% of the original sample has responded to the questionnaire sent to their emails by the deanship of scientific research. The findings reveal the following: 1) the results of the overall response of faculty members on the organizational justice in its domains (distributional, procedural, interactional, evaluational) show that the heads of the academic departments at Princess Noura Bent Abdulrahman University exercise them with a median of (3.47) out of (5), which is above the average; they are categorized as "applicable". In addition, the population of the study confirmed using the dimensions of organizational justice with a median of 3.64 for the interactive justice dimension, then the dimension of procedural justice with a median of 3.46, followed by the distributive justice dimension with a median of 3.44, and the last dimension was the evaluational justice with a median of (3.34). 2) The level of morale among the faculty of Princess Noura Bent Abdulrahman University was, in their view, medium, with a median of 3,23 out of 5, and is categorized as "to some extent " in the questionnaire. There is a strong relationship between the level of organizational justice (distributional, procedural, interactional and evaluational) practiced by the heads of academic departments according to the faculty members and effects on their morale as it has been found that there is a high coefficient of correlation (0,691), at 0.01, meaning that the higher the level of the practice of organizational justice from the heads of the educational departments, the greater the morale of the faculty members. In terms of the organizational justice dimensions, the interactional justice dimension was the highest related dimension to the morale of the faculty members. 3) There are statistically significant differences in the responses of the faculty members on the questionnaire for both organizational justice (by all its dimension) and morale dimension, depending on the years of service, inclining to faculty with more years of services, and variable of scientific degree towards lecturers and their assistants, while there were no statistically significant differences in their responses according to the variable of college type, except for the evaluational justice dimension where there were statistically significant differences at the level of 0,05, and the differences in the category of colleges of humanities. In light of the results and limitations of the study, a number of recommendations were offered. (Published abstract)
