This study tries to investigate the relationship between self-esteem and social anxiety among first level students of English section in University of Kasdi Merbeh Ouargla, applied the descriptive correlation method, applied in selecting a sample of (100) students’ study first level English, their age between 19-21 years old. The hypothesis of study is: 1) there is a correlation between self-esteem and social anxiety among first level students of English. 2) The student's self-esteem is high. 3) there is a statistically significant difference in self-esteem according to sex. 4) there is a statistically significant difference in self-esteem according to residence internal / external. 5) the student's social anxiety is low. 6) there is a statistically significant difference in social anxiety according to sex. 7) there is a statistically significant difference in social anxiety according to residence internal / external. The results of study are as follows: 1) there is negative significant correlation coefficient between self-esteem and social anxiety among first level students of English. 2) the student's self-esteem is statistically high. 3) there is no a statistical significant difference in self- esteem according to sex. 4) there is a statistically significant difference in self-esteem according to residence in favor of external students. 5) the student's social anxiety is low. 6) There is a statistically significant difference in social anxiety according to sex in favor of female. 7) There is no statistically significant difference in social anxiety according to residence. The results of the study are discussing and explaining according to the theoretic domain and some of previous studies. (Author’s abstract)
