AB - This study tries to investigate the relationship between self-esteem and social anxiety among first level students of English section in University of Kasdi Merbeh Ouargla, applied the descriptive correlation method, applied in selecting a sample of (100) students’ study first level English, their age between 19-21 years old. The hypothesis of study is: 1) there is a correlation between self-esteem and social anxiety among first level students of English. 2) The student's self-esteem is high. 3) there is a statistically significant difference in self-esteem according to sex. 4) there is a statistically significant difference in self-esteem according to residence internal / external. 5) the student's social anxiety is low. 6) there is a statistically significant difference in social anxiety according to sex. 7) there is a statistically significant difference in social anxiety according to residence internal / external. The results of study are as follows: 1) there is negative significant correlation coefficient between self-esteem and social anxiety among first level students of English. 2) the student's self-esteem is statistically high. 3) there is no a statistical significant difference in self- esteem according to sex. 4) there is a statistically significant difference in self-esteem according to residence in favor of external students. 5) the student's social anxiety is low. 6) There is a statistically significant difference in social anxiety according to sex in favor of female. 7) There is no statistically significant difference in social anxiety according to residence.
