The effectiveness of communication between graduate students and faculty members at Yarmouk University from the viewpoint of the students themselves [Article]
The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficiency of communication between graduate students and faculty members at Yarmouk University. The sample of the study consisted of (407) graduate chosen through random cluster sampling representing (10%) of the students population. The researcher developed the questionnaire as a tool for collecting the data which consisted of (43) items distributed into five domains, transparency in communication, objectives of communication, interest and participation, human relations, and channel of communication. The researcher assured its reliability and validity; in addition, the researcher applied open-ended questions. The findings of the study showed that the efficiency of communication between students and faculty at Yarmouk University according to students was at an average level in all domains, as transparency came first followed by interest and participation. Meanwhile, the channel of communication came in the last rank. Higher studies students pointed out to several problems hindering their communication with faculty members at Yarmouk University, such as: the lack of certain meetings hours with students, the lack of following up students’ problems and their academic problems. Students suggested the activation of scientific research process for those students and to give more time to meet with them at offices to discuss their problems. Based on the results of the current study, the researcher presented some recommendations some of which are: activating the principle for academic accreditation in accepting graduate students in terms of the number and quality, and activate the modern means of communication as the faculty member's web-site, and the E- mail and the social means of communications.
