The study aimed to identify the educational leadership in Islamic thought, its principles, and the characteristics of the educational leader. The study used the descriptive methodology. The following are the results: Islamic educational leadership is defined as “the capacity to direct and coordinate the activities of the staff members in the educational organization to achieve its educational objectives within the Islamic tenets of a Muslim community, under a competent leader.” In Islamic thought, the most important principles of leadership are faith in God alone, recognition of His existence, and sincerity of worship, justice, equality, decision-sharing and consultation, and moderation. Of the educational leader in Islamic thought, the most important attributes are: righteous Intention, the basis of every work in Islam, faith in God the Creator and master of the universe, the truth of belief and constancy, honesty in words and acts, high sense of responsibility, physical strength and fitness, knowledge, compassion and leniency.
