The last decade of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first century has witnessed a tremendous progress in the field of information technology, computers and communication. It produced many mechanisms of knowledge manufacturing, and more modern technological means that made the whole world a small village seen through a computer screen, as expressed by the communication scholar Marshall McLuhan. It has brought about a number of changes in this era, including all sectors and economic, industrial, commercial and intellectual activities. With the expansion and the continuous development of the digital technologies, some expect that the information and communication technology is about to make a qualitative leap in the practice of reading habits. Thanks to the huge expansion in the use of multimedia and the smart systems to search for and retrieve information, Through which a new reading is produced, in which the reader navigates in an unlimited symbolic space of texts, shapes, sounds and audio-visual effects that enable him to interact with them dynamically. The reader can now benefit from knowledge without being bound by some major barriers such as time and place. This study dealt with the transformations that the reading act has known as a result of the effects of the modern technologies, and the extent of the readers’ interaction with these transformations. Added to this, it addressed the concepts and basics of both reading and the modern technologies used in it, highlighting the effects of the latter on the reading and its modes. The study is built on a descriptive basis. It has concluded a set of results that show the extent to which readers interact with the transformations that have occurred in reading because of the modern technological influences on its various modes. At the end of this study, the researcher came up with the formulation of a set of recommendations aim at enhancing and encouraging the act of digital reading among individuals, by investing in modern technology, and employing it in learning and teaching, So that readers can achieve their various reading satisfactions.
