The research aimed to identify the level of practice of alternative assessment methods in distance learning by female faculty members in the basic sciences department of the common first year deanship, following covid-19 pandemic, and the most significant obstacles to their use of these alternative assessment methods. The research used the descriptive approach, and the research instrument was a questionnaire composed of two parts in addition to the demographic data part; the first part was divided into five sections and the second one into three sections. The study sample consisted of 30 female faculty members working in the basic sciences department of the common first year deanship at King Saud University, which constituted the study population. The results revealed that the level of practice of alternative assessment methods in distance learning by faculty members of the department of basic sciences was moderate, with a mean of (2.73) for the instrument in general. The practice of assessment using electronic tests and assignments was moderate and ranked highest, with a mean of (3.08), while the practice of assessment using the e-portfolio was low, with a mean of (2.28). The results also found that there were no significant differences between the practice of alternative assessment methods in distance learning by faculty members of the basic sciences department and variables of years of experience, academic qualification, training courses, type of specialization, and type of education. In addition, the obstacles to the use of alternative assessment methods in distance learning by faculty members of the basic sciences department were significant, with a mean of (3.65) for the instrument in general. The obstacles related to the curriculum ranked first, with a mean of (3.76), which was a major obstacle, while the obstacles related to the professor ranked last, with a mean of (3.44), which was a major obstacle, too. In light of the findings, the research provided some recommendations and proposals. (Published abstract)
