The aim of this research is to acquaint the effectiveness of using of Herbert Thelin’s group investigation model in developing some geographic thinking skills and the attitude towards group work with the first year students in secondary schools. Achieving this aim theoretically necessitated studying previous researches and studies related to the current research topic, and doing some procedures as follows : 1) Determining the geographic thinking skills to be developed in geography with the first year students in secondary schools. 2) Setting a teacher’s guide to teach two units “Population” and “Economic Activities” in accordance with the steps of the group investigation model. 3) Setting a student’s activity booklet according to the steps of the group investigation model. 4) Identifying the basic research sample, and dividing it into two groups (experimental and controlling) from two different schools; to prevent the spread of the treatment impact. 5) Building the two research tools, namely testing geographic thinking skills and measuring the attitude towards group work. 6) Applying the two research tools a priori to the experimental and the controlling groups. 7) Teaching the two units of “Population” and “Economic Activities” to the experimental group in accordance with the steps of the group investigation model, and teaching the same units in the usual way to the controlling group. 8) Applying the two research tools a posteriori to the experimental and controlling groups. 9) Using appropriate statistical methods according to the sample size and research variables. The findings of the research have shown the following:  A statistically significant difference at the level (≤ 0.05) between the average scores of the experimental group students and the controlling group students in the post-application of the test of geographical thinking skills in favor of the experimental group. A statistically significant difference at the level (≤ 0.05) between the average scores of the experimental group and the controlling group in the post-application of the scale of the attitude towards group work in favor of the experimental group. Summary of the study. First: Research Summary in Arabic Geography is one of the sciences that has a role in the development of thinking ability; the development of thinking skills, learning and acquisition is one of the main objectives of teaching geography in all education stages. So, it is necessary for teachers to depend on modern teaching models and strategies that excite students’ minds and dismiss memorization and instructing, and rather depend on rationalization and thinking. Effective teaching is what keeps learning effect and helps the learners to use what they learn in their daily life. Thus; this is done only by using modern teaching models such as the Herbert Thelin’s group Investigation Model. Research Problem : The researcher has found that there is a clear decline in the level of geographic thinking skills with the first year students in secondary schools. This has been demonstrated through: 1) The findings of some previous researches and studies which confirmed the low level of geographic thinking with the first year students in secondary schools. 2) The researcher conducted a survey whose findings proved a low level in geographic thinking skills. Thus, the researcher could identify the problem of the current research in the following key question: ”How to develop geographic thinking skills and the attitude towards group work in geography using the group investigation model with first year students in secondary schools” The following sub-questions arise from this main question: 1) What are the geographic thinking skills to be developed with first year students in secondary schools? 2) To what extent are these skills available with first year students in secondary schools? 3) How can the two units “Population” and “Economic Activities in Egypt” be organized in the first year in secondary schools geography textbook according to the steps of the group investigation model? 4) What is the effectiveness of using the group investigation model in the development of geographic thinking skills with first year students in secondary schools? 5) What is the effectiveness of using the group investigation model in the development of the attitude towards group work in geography with first year students in secondary schools? 6) What is the correlation between the development of geographic thinking skills and the development of the attitude towards group work in geography with first year students in secondary schools?
