This research aims at identifying the role of in-service training programs in improving and developing teaching the French Language in the secondary schools as perceived by the French language Teachers in the Khartoum Locality. The literature review of the research is composed of the general concepts of the in-service training courses which is designed for the seconfdary Schools French Lnguage Teachrs, its goals, aims and practices and its main training procedures in addition to the provision of information about the methods of evaluation and assessment used by these teachers in measuring the academic achievements of the students. The research methodology used in this study is a research survey technique. The targeted population is a sertricted sample composed of thirty-one secondary schools French language teachers distributed in the schools of the Khartoum locality. A closed questionnaire is designe and administere as a major tool to collate the required data. Major findings of the research are: 1) the in-service training programs directed for the French language secondary schools teachers have clearkly stated aims. 2) The content of the In-service training programs directed for the French language teachers realize its pre-stated aims and objectives. 3) The In-services training programs use a variety of training methodologies in training the French language teachers. 4) The radio and the chalkboard are the main educational aids used in the In-service training programs designed for the Secondary schools French Language Teachers/ Khartoum locality. 5) The In-service programs directed for the French language Secondary schools teachers played an essential roli in improving and developing the teaching/learning process of the French Language.
