The study also aimed to determine the level of social media use among the students according to the variable of locus of control orientation (internal, external). To achieve the study's objectives; the researcher followed the comparative correlative descriptive approach; using a questionnaire to measure the orientation of locus of control prepared by Alaeddin Kafafi (1982). The sample was (316) male and female students from the College of Science and Arts who were randomly selected. The study found that the most used means of communication among the participants were ranked in descending order as follows (WhatsApp, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, BlackBerry, and Messenger) and the level of the participants' social media use was moderate. The study also found that most of the participants were of external orientation of locus of control being the most frequent (221); while the internal orientation being the least frequent (95). The results showed that social media use by individuals of the sample (those with internal control) was moderate and that social media use by participants of internal and external orientations was moderate. The study recommended the necessity of holding free courses and seminars that show the right orientation for students to use the platforms of social media for this use to not affect their academic achievement.
