A1 El-Hilaly, Abdel Rehim Saad El Din A2 Attia, Attia Essayed A2 Zayan, Hamdy Ahmad Taha AB The current study aimed at investigating the impact of an explicit vocabulary learning strategy training program on developing receptive lexical breadth as measured by the Vocabulary Size Test among 68 male first-year EFL majors at the Faculty of Education, Al Azhar University during the academic year 2015-2016. The study also intended to tap the contribution of learning style preferences to the development of receptive lexical breadth using the Perceptual Learning Style Preference (PLSP). ANCOVA analysis results showed that the differences between the groups in receptive lexical breadth were not statistically significant. Results of ANOVA analysis referred that learning style preferences contribute with a slightly similar share to the development of receptive lexical breadth. The study concludes that metacognitive strategies, extensive training, modeling, and practice are major keys to effective foreign language learning.
