A1 القحطاني، ثابت بن سعيد آل كحلان AB The study aimed at identifying how far the courses of the Educational Preparation program at the College of Education, king Khalid University contributed to developing the professional competencies of the student- teacher majoring Sharia (Islamic) sciences in the light of performance quality. To achieve the objectives of the study, a list of key competencies necessary for the student-teacher was developed. A questionnaire in the light of these competencies was prepared and administered to a sample of 102 student teachers. Data were collected and statistically analyzed. Results revealed clear discrepancies in student-teachers responses regarding the development of their professional competencies due to the educational preparation program they were enrolled in. Results of the study also showed the weakness of the educational preparation courses in developing the professional skills in light of performance quality in general. The study indicated that there were statistically significant differences at the level (α ≤ 0.05) in the degree of student teachers mastery of the professional competencies mentioned in the list. The study confirmed that there were no statistically significant differences due to the Specialization variable. Results confirmed that there were statistically significant differences at the level (0.05) between the averages of the groups in two competencies only (classroom management and moral field) whereas there were no statistically significant differences in the rest of the other competencies. In light of the study results, some recommendations were presented.
