AB - يهدف البحث إلى الكشف عن مفهوم تطوير أداء الأستاذ الجامعي، وأسباب ضعف أدائه، والبحث عن آليات تطويره، في إطار الوظائف الثلاث (التدريس - البحث العلمي - خدمة المجتمع). وتمثل عملية التطوير الجامعي واحدة من أبرز التحديات التي تواجه العمل الأكاديمي في مؤسسات التعليم العالي في جميع البلدان النامية، مما يستدعي السعي نحو تجسيد فلسفة الجامعة وسياساتها الهادفة، إلى تحقيق ثلاثية: التدريس والبحث العلمي وخدمة المجتمع، وإذا كان تطوير الأداء مما يعد ركنا ركينا في عملية التطوير المجتمعي بصورة عامة، فإنه لا بد من معرفة حقيقة المشكلة التي يعاني منها الأستاذ الجامعي والكشف عن أسباب الضعف في ذلك والبحث عن آليات التطوير. وتوصل البحث إلى أن للمهنة الأكاديمية سماتها المتميزة التي تتمثل في ضرورة حيازة الأستاذ الجامعي مؤهلاتها العلمية والعملية ولا مجال لقبول فرد فيها لا يحمل مؤهلاتها المهمة، أو لم يلتزم بأخلاق مهنتها، ومن ثم فإن على مؤسسات التعليم العالي التشديد والحرص على الالتزام بمؤهلات المهنة وأخلاقيتا. AB - The research aims to explore the concept of the university professor's performance, the reasons for his poor performance, and search for mechanisms for its development, within the framework of the three functions (teaching - scientific research - community service). The process of university development is one of the most important challenges facing academic work in higher education institutions in all developing countries. This calls for striving towards the embodiment of the university's philosophy and policies aimed at achieving teaching, scientific research and community service. If the performance development is considered a pillar in the community development process in general, then it is necessary to know the reality of the problem that the university professor suffers from, to reveal the causes of weakness behind that, and to search for development mechanisms. The research has concluded that the academic profession should have distinctive characteristics, which are represented in his scientific and practical qualifications, and there is no room for accepting an individual in it, who does not carry its important qualifications, or does not adhere to the ethics of its profession.
