AU - ندى، عمر حمد ندى AU - الموسى، نسيبة علي AB - This study aimed at investigating the impact of teaching geography by using mental maps on the achievement and development of visual thinking skills among the fifth literary students in Iraq. In this study, the quasi-experimental design of the two disproportionate groups was followed by two pre and post tests, and the study members were chosen from the students of (Irfan Preparatory School) Affiliated to the Directorate of Education in Anbar Governorate, according to the intentional method. Two divisions were chosen for the fifth literary class, namely the fifth literary class (A) and the number of its students (30) students as an experimental group, and the fifth literary (b) and the number of its students (30) students as a control group, and the sample was used the randomization of the distribution of the two divisions in the two groups, and thus the total of the study individuals is (60) students. The results of the study showed a statistically significant difference at (α = 0.05) in achievement attributed to mental maps, and the results also showed a statistically significant difference at (α = 0.05) in the visual thinking scale attributed to mental maps. The study recommended holding training courses for teachers of geography to train them in the use of mental maps and how to employ them in teaching.
