AB - The study aimed to determine the acquisition level of habits of mind, the efficiency level of cognitive representation of information and the relationship between them. Also, it aimed to represent the differences in the habits of mind and the efficiency of the cognitive representation of information among Umm Al-Qura University students based on gender and specialization, as well as predict the efficiency of cognitive representation of information through habits of mind. To achieve these objectives, the study adapted the descriptive approach and applied the Habits of Mind Scale by AlJabouri (2012) and the Efficiency of Cognitive Representation of Information Scale by AlZayyat (2001), validated by AlSudairy (2015). The study sample was 600 male and female students from University of Umm Al-Qura during the academic year 1438/1439 AH. Results of the study showed that the level of acquisition of Umm Al-Qura University students for habits of mind ranged from high to medium. The efficiency level of the cognitive representation of information was less than the mean in the study sample. There were differences due to gender variable in most habits of mind in favour of females. Due to the specialization variable, there were differences in a persisting, managing impulsivity and questioning and posing problem habits in favour of scientific disciplines while a thinking interdependently habit was in favour of theoretical disciplines. Also, there was an interaction impact between gender and specialization in some habits of mind and differences attributed to the gender variable in the efficiency of cognitive representation of information for the benefit of females. While there were no differences attributed to specialization, there was a significant impact of the interaction between gender and specialization and a significant correlation between the habits of mind and the efficiency of cognitive representation of information, as well as the predictability of the efficient representation of information through certain habits of mind. Considering these findings, a number of recommendations were presented, including training courses for Umm Al-Qura University students to develop some habits of mind and the efficiency of the cognitive representation of information.
