AB - The study aimed to reveal the effectiveness of using the visual thinking networks in the development of mathematical communication skills at the sixth grade pupils in Makkah. A researcher used a quasi-experimental method in order to achieve the goal of the study. It is applied on the total sample (62) of sixth grade pupils in Makkah. Then it is distributed into two equal groups sixth grade pupils from two different schools (the experimental group consisted of (32) pupils, and the control group consisted of (30) pupils). After that, the researcher uses the visual thinking networks in the unit "Geometric: angles and polygons" on the experimental group. While the control group studied with the traditional method. The two groups has been examine of the mathematical communication skills (reading, writing, representing) and the observation card for (speaking, listening) skills. They have been applied (pre – post) after adjusting, and ensuring its validity and reliability. The researcher has developed six hypotheses. With using (T- test) to test their validity, and with using (ETA-Square) to measure the effect size on the analysis of the results. The results of the study indicated a presence of statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05 ≥ α) between the mean scores of experimental and traditional groups in the (posttest)of each skill of mathematical communication (reading - writing - representing - speaking and listening),and in the overall skills of mathematical communication which were in favor of the experimental group. Also the overall result showed: the effectiveness of the use of visual thinking networks in the development of mathematical communication skills unit " Geometric: angles and polygons " in mathematics at the sixth grade pupils in Makkah. Based on the results of the study, the researcher recommended a set of recommendations with constructing math curriculum according to the aimed visual thinking networks that develop the learner's communication skills of mathematics. The researcher suggests further studies on the use of visual thinking networks in teaching of mathematics in particular, and in other subjects in general. Also it is preferred to apply this study on the elementary grades and on the other level. Besides that, this research is advisable to develop other variables skills such as (a sense of numerical, the mathematical thinking, the ability to innovative thinking, critical thinking and scientific thinking .... etc).
