AB - This study aimed at revealing the effectiveness of using a constructivist model enhanced by the distance education methods in teaching biology in developing reflective thinking skills and retention of learning among high school students. A semi-experimental approach was followed. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the content of the educational unit -the subject of the current study- was addressed in accordance with the Bybee model enhanced by distance education methods, the study tool which was the test of reflective thinking was built, and the validity and reliability of the study tool was confirmed. The study was applied to a sample consisting of (48) female students from the fourth level of scientific secondary stage, of them (24) students in the experimental group and (24) students in the control group, and the reflective thinking test was applied before and after the conduct experiment. The results of the statistical analysis using averages, standard deviations and the accompanying Analysis of Variance (ANCOVA) and the (T) test revealed that there are statistically significant differences between the averages of the study sample at (0.05) level in favor of the experimental group in both the post- and postponed measurements, in the reflective thinking test as a whole and in its sub-skills (identifying fallacies, reaching to conclusions, developing proposed solutions). The effect size was also calculated by finding the eta-squared (ŋ2). The size of the effect was large and in favor of the experimental group. The study also revealed differences in favor of the postponed measurement of reflective thinking skills as a whole and its subskills among the students of the experimental group. The size of the effect was also large in favor of the postponed measurement. The study recommended the necessity of teaching according to the Bybee constructivist model reinforced by distance education methods to develop reflective thinking skills and to maintain the impact of learning.
