AB - The current study aimed at analyzing stories related to waste management, which were written by a group of fourth-grade students participating in the Environmental Excellence Program in the Sultanate of Oman. To achieve the aim of the study, the descriptive and analytical approach was used. Moreover, the study tool was designed to analyze the stories’ content included ten criteria. The validity of the tool was verified by presenting it to a group of referees specialized in the field of child literature, writing stories, and environmental education. Its reliability was assessed by calculating the Holosti coefficient (0.93), which is suitable for the purpose of analysis. The study, s sample consisted of 20 stories written by a group of students from the fourth grade in the Sultanate of Oman who joined the program. The results indicated the lack of innovative solutions to the environmental issues discussed in the stories, as the percentage of the criterion “The story contains innovative solutions to the environmental issue discussed” was 15%. The results also showed the students had an awareness that waste is an environmental problem. The issue of “waste accumulation” in the stories was repeated, by almost 85%. In addition, the results showed that throwing waste in the designated areas was one of the most frequent solutions in the students’ stories, by 75%. In light of these results, the study concluded with a set of recommendations and suggestions. (Published abstract) http://search.shamaa.org/abstract_en.gif
