AU - العجمي، أمل حسين AB - هدفت الدراسة للتعرف إلى أهمية كتاب الرياضيات، ومدى قراءته لدى طلبة الصف الثاني عشر العلمي، والأجزاء التي يركز عليها الطلبة عند قراءة الكتاب. صممت الباحثة استبانة من محورين هما أهمية الكتاب وقراءة الكتاب، وتحققت صدقها وثباتها ثم طبقت الاستبانة على 301 من الطلاب والطالبات. وأوضحت النتائج أن أهمية كتاب الرياضيات بالنسبة للطلبة متوسطة، وتكمن في توفر الأمثلة المحلولة والتمارين، وأن قراءتهم للكتاب تتسم بمسح الدرس وتركز في مجملها على الأمثلة المحلولة والتمارين، مع التركيز على الجانب الإجرائي للدروس وخطوات الحل وليس على فهم للدرس، ويكون فيها الربط بين أجزاء الدرس والمعلومات السابقة قليلاً. واتضح أن الأجزاء التي يركز عليها الطلبة عند قراءة الدرس هي الأمثلة المحلولة بنسبة 83%، تليها التمارين بنسبة 77%، وأن الأجزاء التي يتجاهلها الطلبة هي التطبيقات الحياتية للدرس بنسبة 76%. وتبين وجود فروق دالة إحصائيا بين الطلاب والطالبات لصالح الطالبات في أهمية كتاب الرياضيات. A questionnaire was built to collect the data. The validity and reliability of the questionnaire were insured. A sample of 301 students responded to the questionnaire. The results indicated that the importance of mathematics textbook was moderate and that students valued the working examples and exercises. The students’ style of reading was scanning; with a focus on working examples, exercises and solving procedures, not on the understanding of mathematics concepts. Little attention was given to connecting between new mathematics concepts and previous knowledge. The results showed that the parts they focused on were working examples (83%) and exercises (77%). Additionally, the most neglected parts were mathematics applications (76%). The T-test indicated statistically significant differences between genders’ responses towards the importance of mathematics textbook statements; in favor of females.
