AB - The aim of this study is to identify the environmental values in the Biological Textbook Syllabi of the fifth year of the secondary schools in Iraq for the study year of 2013-2014. The research-paper investigates the biological values, their percentages and arrangements, depending on such factors like the preservation of the environment, the rational use of the resources and the aesthetic values implicit in the environment. The research-paper has relied on the analytical-descriptive method as it adopts the analysis of the content to mark off the implicit values in the biological text. It has also depended on the paragraphs that contain a series of connected sentences of the single idea and concept, as the content cannot be meaningful unless the series runs complete. So, the analysis unit is the semantically complete paragraph, in which the values and their percentages can be identified and then to show them to a committee of specialized experts to ensure the validity and reliability of the analysis. After two weeks, the analysis was repeated and two experts helped in the second analysis and the results showed 83% of the first procedure, and the second one got 85% between the work of the researcher of this analysis and another researcher’s work. The validity factor was accounted using the Spearman factor. Accordingly, the statistical analysis has shown that the environment values got 38.73% higher than the rational use of the environmental resources of 37.57%, with a mean difference of 1.16%, whereas the environmental aesthetic values were 23.69% with a mean difference of 15.04%, which denotes the poor interest in the environmental values that breed the taste and the aesthetic feeling. Recommendations and suggestions conclude this research-paper. (Published abstract)
