AB - This research aimed at studying the effectiveness of using Kagan and Cowan strategy in teaching Geography in developing lateral thinking skills and consumptive awareness among fifth grade primary school pupils. To achieve the aim of the research, the researcher reviewed the literature and the studies pertinent to Kagan and Cowan strategy, and prepared a teacher’s guide and students’ worksheets in the light of the proposed strategy. The researcher also prepared a test of lateral thinking skills and consumptive awareness and administered them (the worksheets and the test) to a jury member and modified them in the light of their remarks and comments. 80 male and female pupils from Alshohadaa primary school at Al-Fath administration were selected for the study. They were randomly assigned to a control group (40 pupils) and an experimental one (40 pupils). The result of using the strategy in teaching geography was effective in developing lateral thinking and consumptive awareness of the experimental group. Hence, the researcher recommends the use of Kagan and Cowan strategy in teaching geography courses for its role in developing the scientific thinking skills and in forming learners’ awareness.
