AB - The study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of the six hats strategy in developing ninth graders’ deep understanding of Islamic education and attitudes towards it. The study tools entailed the construction of the test of deep understanding skills, the scale of attitudes towards Islamic education, and the teacher’s guide for the development of deep understanding skills through using the six hats strategy. The study sample consisted of (60) female ninth graders from Al-Qararah Coed High Elementary School, distributed into two equivalent groups: an experimental group consisting of (30) female students, and a control one consisting of (30) female students. The study adopted the experimental approach & descriptive approach. 1) There were statistically significant differences at the level (0.05) between the mean scores of the students in the experimental group and those of their counterparts in the control group in the post application of the deep understanding of Islamic education skills test in favor of the experimental group. 2) There were statistically significant differences at the level (0.05) between the mean scores of the students in the experimental group and those of their counterparts in the control group in the post application of the scale of attitudes towards Islamic education in favor of the experimental group. 3) The six hats strategy was characterized by a high degree of effectiveness in the skills of intellectual fluency and prediction, while it was not effective in the skills of interpretation and decision-making and the overall test score. However, the six hats strategy was characterized by a high degree of effectiveness in developing students' attitudes towards Islamic Education in all domains and the total score of the scale. 1) The six hats strategy should be used in the teaching of Islamic education for the development of thinking skills among students, and benefiting from the current study materials to make learning interesting and closer to reality. 2) It is necessary that those in charge of education in the Ministry of Education and United Nations for Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) should adopt the six hats strategy because of its effectiveness in the development of thinking and the improvement of students’ attitudes towards the learning process. 3) It is necessary that instructional supervisors should pay attention to improving the psychological learning environments for students through urging teachers to provide positive learning educational spaces for learners, which may increase their interaction and participation in a way that allows the use of modern teaching strategies capable of enhancing thinking such as the six hats.
