AU - العتيبي، فاطمة ناصر AB - The research aimed at identifying the reality of strategic planning at the departments of education in Saudi Arabia, from the viewpoints of education supervisors, and disclosure of the difference of the current strategic planning adopted by the departments of education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from the viewpoint of education supervisors. The researchers designed a questionnaire consisting of (25) items and distributed it to the research sample which consisted of (127) senior education supervisors in the city of Riyadh. The researchers used the descriptive analytical approach. The results revealed the following: the education supervisors were aware of the importance of strategic planning and its contribution in achieving the goals and visions of educational administrations. There was a conviction among education supervisors regarding the availability of facilities and competencies that could carry out the planning process. The environment for the application of strategic planning in the education departments in Riyadh, from the viewpoint of education supervisors, revealed the inadequacy of the internal environment for the application of strategic planning because of centralization within the education administrations. There is also a resistance of change within the administrations of education and that the methods employed by educational administrations in strategic planning were not up to date with regard to new developments in education administrations.
