AB This study aims at recognizing the reality of university scientific research in Algeria and its role in social development by exploring the views of a sample of researching teachers, the degree of their contribution to the social development and operation of the most important obstacles to the development of this research, to achieve this goal, an exploratory study using the structured product description approach was conducted on an purposive sample of 200 teachers and researchers in various fields and the various members of the labs at the University of Guelma. The study concluded that the role of scientific research in university social development remains low and this is due to many obstacles including lack of references, equipment and scientific tools added to the impact of teaching responsibilities and administrative procedures to get engaged in research, the problem of publication, distribution and what results from, as prevention research and their identification, in addition to non-cooperation of certain social institutions with research professors to apply the results and their activation.
