The study aimed to design a proposed instructional program based on analytical reading skills and to investigate its effect on developing parsing skills among students of Colleges of Education. The researcher adopted a quasi-experimental design based on two equivalent groups (experimental and control) with pre-test and post-test measurements. The research population consisted of fourth-year students in the Departments of Arabic Language at Colleges of Education in Iraq. A purposive sample was selected from the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Education, University of Kufa, consisting of (114) students who were randomly distributed into two groups: an experimental group (57 students) taught according to the proposed instructional program, and a control group (57 students) taught using the conventional method. The instructional program included (12) learning units designed in accordance with the principles of active learning and analytical reading skills. The program focused on training students to analyze texts, identify grammatical relationships, and determine the grammatical functions of words within their linguistic context. To measure the effectiveness of the program, the researcher constructed a parsing skills test consisting of (30) multiple-choice items. The validity of the test (face, content, and construct validity) was verified, and its reliability was calculated using Pearson’s correlation coefficient and the Spearman–Brown formula, yielding a reliability coefficient of (0.73). The statistical analysis using the t-test revealed statistically significant differences at the (0.05) level between the mean scores of the experimental group in the pre-test and post-test in favor of the post-test. Significant differences were also found between the experimental and control groups in the post-test in favor of the experimental group. These findings indicate the effectiveness of the proposed instructional program based on analytical reading skills in developing parsing skills among students of Colleges of Education.
