The study aimed to know the extent to which e-book motivates students to learn, as they are one of the most important sources of information and tools available for distance learning. By reviewing previous studies, it is possible to determine the motivating factors on which to focus, to determine other supporting and motivating elements that enhance e-book’s effectiveness. Then, it is possible to develop these tools to meet the requirements of students who use them during the distance learning process and to identify the technical factors taken into account during e-book and other electronic information sources’ design phases. The qualitative approach based on inductive methods belonging to the interpretive philosophy was used, and individual interviews were conducted with 40 students to collect data for the study and analyse data. The most important results that have been reached of these interviews were to ascertain the extent to which e-books support the distance learning process, motivate students, and to show e-books’ conformity to the motivating factors noted in previous studies. Next, we identified other motivating factors that emerged through the analysis of the interviews’ content. This was followed by the assessment of technical factors that must be available via electronic information, to make them supportive of the distance learning process. Finally, we built a framework to organise these factors, to serve as a guide for preparing effective electronic information sources that motivate students to learn while enhancing and enriching their knowledge as well as their skills.
