The aim of the research is to reveal the differences between the effectiveness of two teaching methods (participatory/ competitive) in a learning environment based on educational games with augmented reality technology among educational technology students, developing research skills in information retrieval systems, and the need for knowledge among educational technology students and relied on the experimental approach to reveal the effectiveness of the two methods of teaching (participatory/ competitive) and the comparison between them, and the research used the following tools: an assessment card for the performance aspect of research skills in the information retrieval systems in question, and the scale of need for knowledge, and the research reached several results, including the superiority of the group that used the participatory education method over those that used the method of participatory education competitive education in a learning environment based on educational games with augmented reality technology in performance rates for research skills in information retrieval systems, as well as for the variable of need for knowledge.
