The study aimed to reveal the reality of the application of standards and procedures for the nomination of school leaders in public schools in Jeddah and suggestions for their development from the point of view of teachers, and to reveal the significance of differences in the responses of the study sample according to years of experience and academic qualification. The study relied on the descriptive survey method, and a questionnaire was applied to a simple random sample of (368) teachers. The results showed that the standards and procedures for dissecting school leaders in government schools in Jeddah were applied to a large extent, with an arithmetic mean of (4.59). The criterion of personal qualities came first, followed by scientific experience, then practical educational experiences, and finally the criterion of academic qualifications. The most prominent developmental proposals for applying the criteria for nomination of school leaders presented by the study were the requirements for candidates to obtain a license in school leadership, to avoid nepotism during the nomination of school leaders, and to pass through the administrative hierarchy within the field. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the average responses of teachers about the reality of applying the criteria for nominating leaders in government schools in Jeddah in general, and in the two aspects of academic qualifications and scientific experience, in particular, due to the different years of experience. While there were differences in educational practical experiences and personal characteristics towards teachers whose experience amounts to ten years or more. There were also differences attributed to the academic qualification in the direction of the category of teachers who hold a doctorate degree. (Author’s abstract)
