One of the main interests of teaching and learning foreign languages is to promote and facilitate contacts between the various languages and cultures. Consequently, the teaching/learning of a foreign language should emphasize the acquisition of cultural competence and in particular the installation of its intercultural dimension in learners. One of the mediators involved in the development of interculturality is the foreign French language textbook, which immediately offers a vision of the target language-culture as well as that of the local language-culture. In this study, we will analyze the image that the French textbooks at the Algerian secondary school transmit of Us, of the Other and of the Others and draw conclusions from it in order to participate in the improvement of the intercultural situation in Algeria.
