This research aimed at investigating effectiveness of a training program based on metacognitive strategies in developing functional writing skills and awareness of its processes. It also aimed at identifying the correlation between these two variables among female trainees at the Continuous Learning Centre of Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University. The study design used experimental approach in which, one group pre-post experimental were used in this research. The researchers deployed two data collection tools including functional writing skills test and awareness of functional writing processes scale. They also developed a training program based on metacognitive strategies that contains a guide for both trainers and trainees. A purposive sample of 49 trainees from the Continuous Learning Centre of Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University was recruited in this research. The research showed that there are statistically significant differences between the pre-and post-test results in favor of the post-test in developing functional writing skills and awareness of its processes. This indicated the effectiveness of this training program. Results also revealed a correlation between the trainees’ level in functional writing test and awareness of its processes. Several research recommendations and suggestions were made based on results of this research. (Published abstract)
