This research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using advanced organizations strategies in teaching mathematics on the development of critical thinking skills and the retention of learning among second grade of middle school students. To achieve this goal, the researchers used an experimental design with two groups and prepared two research instruments which were a test for critical thinking skills and a test to measure the retention of learning. The research random sample consisted of 66 students from the second grade of a middle school in the Al-Ardah Governorate, which is in the Jazan educational district. The results showed a statistically significant difference at the (0.05) level between the mean scores of the two groups in the post-test of critical thinking skills in favor of the experimental group. There was also a statistically significant difference at the (0.05) level between the mean scores of the two groups in the post academic test, in favor of the experimental group. Based on the findings, the research recommended holding introductory courses for teachers on strategies that develop critical thinking skills and contribute to the retention of learning, including advanced organizations strategies. Additionally, the researchers encourage further studies to investigate the effect of advanced organizational strategies on the development of critical thinking skills and the retention of learning among high school or elementary school students in other educational districts.
