قياس مستوى الوعي بمفاهيم ومنصات وتطبيقات الذكاء الاصطناعي لدى الطلبة والأكاديميين في مؤسسات التعليم العالي بسلطنة عمان
AI emerged prominently during the Fourth Industrial Revolution, taking the lead in tools, applications, as well as the concepts and terms associated with users' understanding and awareness across various fields. Its uses have expanded significantly; however, students and academics have shown varying levels of comprehension of AI-related terminology. As a result, several researchers emphasized the need to clarify these terms to users at different levels and to measure their awareness of the technologies they are using and applying. This research paper aimed to assess the level of awareness to avoid confusion and misinterpretation of AI-related concepts. The researchers presented findings based on a study conducted among students and academic staff (including researchers and individuals interested in AI) in higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman. The goal was to identify gaps in understanding and awareness regarding AI within these institutions. The study results indicated a disparity in the understanding of the term "AI." The sample consisted of more than 350 responses, the majority being students, while 41.2% were academic staff. The overall understanding of the term “AI” among the participants reached 84.7%, whereas comprehension of the term “Agent” (meaning intermediary or representative) was notably lower at only 42%. Therefore, the researchers recommend emphasizing the importance of understanding key terms such as “Prompt” (meaning prompting) and “Reinforcement Learning.” They also recommend offering training programs for members of higher education, research, and innovation institutions in the Sultanate of Oman to enhance awareness of AI and its current and future roles.
