The study aimed at verifying the psychometric properties of the cognitive distortions scale, the level of cognitive distortions among students of the Faculty of Education at Umm Al-Qura University and differences according to gender and specialization in the level of cognitive distortions. The study followed the descriptive comparative approach, and the research tool was cognitive distortions scale prepared by the researcher. The sample consisted of (446) male and female students from the Faculty of Education in the academic year 1438-1439 AH were Stratified Randomly selected and applied the measure of cognitive distortions. Using (means and standard deviations, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, person correlation, Alpha Cronback coefficient, Kolmogorov - Smirnov test, Shapiro Wilk test, Kruskal- Wallis test, Mann Whitney test) methods, the study yielded the following results: Availability of the measure of cognitive distortions an acceptable degree of validity in the methods of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis and internal consistency. And an acceptable degree of stability calculated in the Cronbach's alpha and Half-Split method, the level of cognitive distortions among the students of the Faculty of Education at Umm Al-Qura University was low for all dimensions and for the total score. Differences between males and females were found in the level of cognitive distortions in all dimensions and total degree in the direction of males. Differences were found in some dimensions according to gender in males. Differences in all dimensions were in accordance with department in female sample. In the light of the findings of the study, a number of recommendations were presented: using cognitive distortions scale prepared for the current study in future studies because of its indicators of validity and stability. Diversify the methods of verifying validity and stability of psychological standards because most of them depend on the correlation coefficients that are affected by the size of the sample. And held training courses for some students and some specializations to modify their cognitive distortions. (Published abstract)
