This study investigated students' spatial ability in the fifth and ninth grades in the Sultanate of Oman according to their educational performance, which was measured by a test similar to the TIMSS test in science. A total number of 1165 were recruited to participate in this study, distributed among the fifth grades (n = 627) and the ninth grade (n = 538). The results of the independent samples t-test indicated that there were statistically significant differences in spatial ability in favor of high-performing students in the test in both grade levels. These results were similar for questions with higher cognitive levels (application and reasoning) or questions with lower cognitive levels (recall and understanding). These results indicate that performance in TIMSS tests depends on spatial ability, which emphasize the need to pay awareness to students' spatial ability to raise their performance in science achievement and TIMSS international study tests in science.
