the effect of using animated pictures strategy assisted with music and sounds on fifth grade efl students' vocabulary growth and their attitudes toward it in jordan
This study aimed to explore the effect of using animated pictures strategy assisted with music and sounds on the fifth grade EFL students' vocabulary growth and their attitudes toward it in Jordan. The participants of this study consisted of forty fifth grade students, at Umm Ammar School for Girls, in the second semester of the scholastic year 2022-2023. The school was purposefully chosen for logistic purposes. At that school, there were two fifth grade sections: Section (A) consisted of twenty students, and it was chosen randomly as a control group. Section (B) also consisted of twenty students that were assigned as an experimental group. The control group was taught by using regular instruction, whereas the experimental group was taught by using animated pictures assisted with music and sounds strategy. The pre and post – test included four sections about listening vocabulary, speaking vocabulary, reading vocabulary and writing vocabulary. Pre-post-tests and post-questionnaire were administrated to assess the effect of using animated pictures strategy assisted with music and sounds on fifth grade EFL students' vocabulary growth and their attitudes toward using this strategy in learning vocabulary. Students in both groups sat to a pre-test at the beginning of the semester to determine their actual level in vocabulary. After 8 weeks, the same test was conducted as a post-test to explore their development. A questionnaire was administered to the experimental group to measure the effect of using animated pictures strategy assisted with music and sounds on their attitudes. To analyze the result, the researcher used T-test and One- way ANOVA tests to find the differences that may arise because of the applied treatments in the study to compare the mean scores of the two groups control and experimental on the pre-post-test. The results of the study showed that: 1) The experimental group students developed all vocabulary aspects but they developed in certain aspects more than others. 2) The findings of the study revealed that the experimental group students had positive attitudes using animated pictures strategy assisted with music and sounds. Accordingly, a set of recommendations were provided at the end of the study. (Author’s abstract)
