The current research aims to identify the reality of the practice of academic department heads of their role in enhancing the academic freedom of faculty members in the field of scientific research at Menoufia University, while identifying the obstacles facing the heads of academic departments in order to enhance the academic freedom of faculty members, and to make some proposals to enhance the academic freedom of members of the faculty Teaching. The research was based on the descriptive approach, as it is considered the most appropriate research method for the nature of the study. The study tools were represented in the interview with a number of faculty members and department heads, and their number reached 30 respondents. The search resulted in a set of results, the most important of which are: 1) That department heads allow the faculty members freedom in the field of scientific research to a large extent. 2) And that the regulations and laws and their rigidity, and the limited powers of the department head, represent a challenge to the department head in carrying out a role in promoting the freedom of faculty members in the field of scientific research. 3) The limited budgets are among the obstacles facing department heads in order to enhance the academic freedom of faculty members in the field of scientific research. 4) The infrastructure and technology have a great impact on the research productivity of the faculty member and a major factor in research review, and the lack of acceptance of scientific research, due to the severe deficiency in the infrastructure and technology at the level of all colleges. 5) That routine and administrative procedures are among the most important obstacles facing faculty members in exercising their academic freedom in scientific research.
