This study aims at determining the level of mathematical proficiency among ninth graders and its relationship to their beliefs about learning mathematics. This study applied the descriptive relational approach, and the sample consisted of (603) students. To achieve the purpose of the study, the mathematical proficiency test and the belief scale were developed, and their reliability and validity have been approved. The results showed that the level of mathematical proficiency is moderate, and that students’ estimates of their beliefs about learning mathematics are moderate, excepted of teaching methods which came high. The results showed statistically significant differences between the arithmetic averages of students' assessments of their beliefs in the field of mathematics teaching methods, in favour of female students. And revealed an inverse correlation between the level of mathematical proficiency and their assessments of their beliefs, the researchers proposed some of recommendation. (Published abstract)
