جودة النوم وعلاقتها بأعراض الإكتئاب لدى عينة من طلاب الجامعة الأردنية
The present study was conducted at the University of Jordan (UJ). An analytical descriptive approach was adopted to analyze data and discuss results. The researcher used two instruments. The first one is the scale of sleep quality dimensions which was developed by Abu Jadi (2016) for the Jordanian environment. As for the second instrument, it is represented in beck’s depression inventory. The sample of the current study consists from two hundred (200) female and male students who were enrolled at the University of Jordan. It was concluded that most of the respondents show very high or high sleep quality levels. However, few respondents show moderate level of sleep quality. To be specific, 46 % of the respondents show very high sleep quality level, whereas 22 % of the respondents show high sleep quality level. It was also concluded that the intensity of the sleep problems among the respondents is moderate. That was concluded through having a mean of 2.00. It was concluded that the students enrolled at the University of Jordan (UJ) do not suffer from problems associated with depression. That because more than two-thirds of the respondents do not suffer from any level of depression. To be specific, 64 % of the respondents do not suffer from any level of depression. It was concluded that the value of the correlation coefficient between the sleep quality dimensions and depression symptoms is low (r² = 0,006). That indicates that there is weak relationship between the sleep quality levels from one hand and the depression symptoms that are stated in beck’s depression inventory from another hand. It was concluded that there isn’t any statistically significant difference between the respondents’ sleep quality levels and depression symptoms. As f or the variance rate that interprets the relationship between sleep quality level and depression symptoms, it is very low and statistically insignificant. Several recommendations were suggested by the researcher of the present study. For instance, she recommends implementing programs that aim to reduce the depression levels of the students enrolled in Jordanian universities, including the University of Jordan. The researcher believes that such programs should be implemented by professionals specialized in psychological health. She also recommends providing Jordanian university students with paper-based handbooks that include information about psychological health and the best positive thinking patterns. That shall participate in raising the quality life level of Jordanian students, especially the students who suffer from depression. (Author's abstract)
