The current research aimed at find out the effectiveness of using discovery approach in teaching the basics animal production in cognitive achievement and developing some practical skills for the first year of agriculture secondary school students. The research group consisted of two groups, one experimental group (40) students, and the other a control group (40) students. Research materials tools included teacher guide for teaching unit about “Animal Care” according to the discovery approach, student book, as well as achievement cognitive test, and a checklist to measure the performance in the practical skills in the “Animal Care” unit. The tools of the research were pre-administered to the two groups of the research experimental and control. The experimental group was taught by using the discovery approach, while the control group was taught by using the traditional method. The tools of the research were post- administered and appropriate statistical procedures were used to investigate the differences in the means of scores between experimental group and the control group. The results of the research showed that using the discovery approach was effective in cognitive achievement and developing some practical skills of the first year agriculture secondary school students for the experimental group students compared to the control group students.
