As one of the important field of education, Art education seeks to build an individual's personality in areas of knowledge, conscience (emotional) and skillful performance. This is done through the instructional contents of the established educational guides of general education stages, especially the secondary schools. These guides include number of vocabularies that should achieve the identified educational goals such as the artistic taste that is connected with the sentimental side of learner. The problem of the study is the weakness of artistic taste among the Students of secondary schools. This is discovered through an exploratory study done by the researcher over a sample of teachers of Arts education. The aim of this study is to discover the artistic taste of Students of secondary schools. Thus, the researcher builds up an instructional unit of art education that increase the artistic taste among Students of preparatory schools. The aims of the study: 1) Designing an instructional unit of art education. 2) Knowing the effect of this unit in developing the artistic taste through testing it over a sample of pupils of the fifth literary grade. The sample of the study is the fifth grade (literary, scientific) Students of secondary schools of Diyala governorate/the Centre. The total number of Students is 779.Only 40 Students has been chosen from Al-Qudis secondary school. These Students has been divided into two groups’ twenty students in each group. The Procedures: The researcher conduct an instructional unit of Art education that is related with the artistic taste specified in the guide of Art education for the preparatory schools. This unit is composed of 6 lessons. Also A test was built to assess art tasting (visual and intellectual), these tools have been shown to a group of experts to check their validity. The Results: To achieve the aims of the study, the researcher used some statistical devices like Mann-Witneytest, Wicoxon test, Kunder_Richardson formula 20 and difficulty coefficient the study reached at: 1) The advance of the test group on which the content of the educational unit was applied. 2) An apparent advance due to the use of the educational unit by the test group. Recommendations: Adopting this designed educational unit, which is designed according to Camp’s 1985 model, to see its validity and capability in developing the artistic taste among pupils? The researcher suggests the following: Conducting studies on art tasting on the students of secondary stage and its relation with visual perception. (Author’s abstract)
