This paper assesses the Master’s program curriculum and methods of teaching social studies at the College of Education, Sultan Qaboos University based on seven criteria: objectives, program management, academic resources, curriculum, teaching and assessment, learning opportunities, and levels of graduates. The researcher used relied a qualitative methodology in examining the program where he reviewed a few official documents related to the program in addition to conducting a series of interviews with some of the program graduates. The results of the study revealed the program strengths, notably the availability of clear objectives, an organized management structure allowing for participation making decision concerning the program, solid academic resources in terms of preparation, few as they may be, a curriculum consisting of several courses that helps in the capacity building of program applicants, a diversity in teaching and assessment methods, support for learning opportunities by the University, and the success of most participants in the program. Conversely, the weaknesses that need to be addressed and rectified are the insufficient academic resources in comparison to the number of students enrolled in the program, the absence of choice in the curriculum as all courses are mandatory, and the seemingly urgent need for data regarding the quality level of the program graduates and its impact on improving their professional capabilities.(Author’s Abstract)
