The purpose of the study is to explore the awareness level of natural disasters and their effects by grade eleven students in Oman in light of gender and governorate. The sample was 774 students. A survey based method was adopted using a questionnaire of three components: knowledge (20 items), attitudes (18 items) and behavior (15 items). The content validity instrument was verified by a panel of referees. The instrument’s Cronbach alpha coefficient of internal consistency was calculated to establish its reliability and it was(0.89). The findings indicated that students demonstrated the lowest degree of awareness about natural disasters in the cognitive domain with (55.25%) while they demonstrated a high degree of awareness in the affective and behavioural domains. In addition, there were statistically significant differences in terms of gender in favour of female students and governorate in favour of some governorate. The findings also showed that students depended mainly on their families as a trusted source of information regarding the natural disaster. The study recommended that the knowledge component should be given more attention. This might be integrated in the curriculum and school activities. (Published abstract)
