The study aimed to uncover the role of debate in enhancing communication skills and strategies in English language preparatory classes at Saudi universities from the students' perspectives. It also sought to explore the obstacles and challenges faced in integrating debates, in addition to analyzing statistical differences between male and female students' responses based on gender at a significance level of (α≤0.05). The sample consisted of (40) male and female students from the University of Business and Technology in Jeddah. The study relied on a questionnaire composed of two sections and the latest specialized literature. The validity, internal consistency, and reliability of the tool were verified. Means and standard deviations were used to extract the results of the first and second questions, while Levene's test was used to analyze variance in the third question. The results showed that (88.7%) of the sample believed that debates play a significant role in enhancing classroom communication skills, and (79.7%) believed in their role in activating communicative strategies. About (40.6%) considered that student-related obstacles do not constitute challenges, and (68.5%) believed that teacher, environment, and organizational obstacles are not challenges. No statistically significant differences were found between male and female students in most of the study's items related to the role and effectiveness of debates and the obstacles.
